The first luxury Space hotel to be constructed 2020

    1. The World’s First Space Hotel Will Be Up And Running In 2021

  • A US-based startup is planning something that has been the dream of most sci-fi enthusiasts – a luxury space hotel. Dubbed the Aurora Station, the project is estimated to be completed by 2021, with the station ready to receive guests in 2022.
  • 2. The Aurora Station

  • The brainchild of California-based startup Orion Span, the Aurora Station is projected to be the size of a private jet cabin at about 43 feet long and 14 feet wide. It will be positioned 200 miles above our planet, which is just 50 miles shy of the International Space Station’s orbit.
Aurora Station is expected to accommodate about six people in total - two crew members and four passengers. The entire trip, including the ride and stay, will take about 12 days in total. Aurora will complete one orbit around the Earth in 90 minutes, which gives the guests a chance to see sunrise and sunset about 16 times in a matter of 24 hours. In addition, the multiple windows on the station will allow guests to see gorgeous views of the Southern and Northern auras. All travelers will undergo a 3-month training program to acclimatize their body for a stay in space.
And though the station does appear to be a small venture, Orion Span has big plans for expansion. They expect to add additional modules to the station depending on the demand. The construction of the station is expected to start next year and the company plans to put Aurora in orbit by late 2021.
  • 3. The Price

  • While the prospect of seeing Earth from space is indeed enticing, a trip to the Aurora station is not something that everyone can afford. According to the company’s launch price, it will cost a person a whopping $9.5 million for this 12-day vacation in space.
And if the price seems too high, it looks like people are not at all letting it stop them from getting an experience of a lifetime. Within 72 hours of announcing the project, Orion Span has received advanced bookings for up to 4 months.
Though the company currently focuses on offering space rental options, Orion Span has a long-term plan of selling its modules as a sort of ‘space condominium’ to interested buyers in the future. With a unique station architecture that allows for the addition of numerous modules, the company envisions Aurora to be a premier space property in a few decades.
